LIAT NOT AT FAULT IN CARIB AVIATION DEMISECaribbean Airline, LIAT (1974) Ltd has asserted that it is in no way responsible for the demise of Carib Aviation Ltd. LIAT CEO, Mark Darby, yesterday refuted claims that LIAT had brought about the downfall of the Carib by hiring pilots who previously worked for that Airline. Darby said on the contrary, that LIAT had for several years been a supportive partner for Carib. He stated further that LIAT would not have wanted to see the demise of Carib Aviation, which in connecting to smaller Caribbean destinations, had provided a service that has always been very much appreciated by LIAT. "I feel that we have been incredibly supportive of Carib over the last two years, and rather than doing anything to jeopardise that airline's survival, we have done everything in our power to help it to survive and prosper; LIAT has often taken the blame when Carib cancelled flights, and has even provided LIAT customer service resources to address Carib related issues; Furthermore, LIAT has cooperated with Carib to the point where Carib tickets could be sold via LIAT's system," Darby said. Addressing the issue of pilots, which LIAT had hired, Darby said it had indeed hired a limited amount of crew, some of whom had already been laid off by Carib - the others were he understood, in any case, on the point of resigning from Carib. He said rather than blame LIAT for the downturn in its fortunes, Carib Aviation would be better advised to look internally at a number of recent events that have befallen the airline; the impact of the loss of some senior staff and consider how these might have impacted customer confidence and the morale of Carib Aviation staff.
