LIAT'S RESPONSE TO GRENADA ADVOCATE ARTICLE

Barbados, Bridgetown/, 1st February, 2008
LIAT feels it necessary to clarify a few issues raised in the article carried on the front page of the Friday, February 01 Grenada Advocate. At no point did the LIAT Chief Executive Officer, Mark Darby decline to meet with Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Keith Mitchell after it was indicated that the Prime Minister would not be inclined to meet with Union leader, Senator Chester Humphrey. While Mr. Darby was disappointed that Senator Humphrey would not be included in the discussion, he respected the Prime Minister's wish for a conference strictly with LIAT top management officials.

In addition, the explanation proffered by Prime Minister Mitchell - that he was unaware of Senator Humphrey's presence in the delegation and therefore was not in a position to prepare adequately for any issues that may pertain to his role with LIAT - was accepted by LIAT's CEO.

Furthermore, with the matter sorted out the meeting proceeded smoothly. Insights and concerns were highlighted by both parties and positives outcomes were achieved. Among them were: a commitment by the Prime Minister to the success and survival of LIAT; Mr. Darby's articulation of LIAT's intention to implement a plan intended to improve customer service and a commitment by the LIAT CEO to have the relevant airline officials meet with Grenada's Minister of Tourism, Hon. Claris Modeste Curwen to look at options which could improve the service to Grenada.
